I am the author/producer of
Freelance writer/revirwer for DownBeat, JazzErie eletter PA
Other key Publications/Productions
My interests in jazz are:
Jazz is and has been since my teens a critical part of my life as listener, first, and most importantly, as advocate, doing whatever I can as writer/broadcaster, concert producer to keep the music thriving and develop a new, younger audience in my hometown of Erie, PA and anywhere else I can reach with my writing.and former broadcasting. In June, 2014, I donated my entire jazz collection of some 6,000 CDs to the Erie County Public Library under the title "Everything Jazz," which I always used for my radio jazz shows off and on for some 20-plus years.
More about what I do:
As part of the jazz community in my hometown of Erie, PA, I contribute without charge CD reviews for a weekly e-letter events calendar produced by two local musicians.
Also contribute writings to the JazzErie (iazz society) monthly website free of charge.
I support the JJA because
It is one of the major organizations of jazz lovers and would-be jazz fans in not only the U.S., but also worldwide. Unless economics make it impossible, I believe every person who cares deeply about the music should join with like-minded colleague in JJA to help keep jazz alive and well for us, our children and grandchildren. We owe whatever we can do to help the music that has added so much to our lives. It seems, under Howard Mandel's superb leadership, and many others who play active roles in the organization, that JJA gets bigger and better every year, and that's the way it should be
