Many musicians, journalists and arts presenters have learned to employ Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media platforms for reaching and engaging audiences directly. But some strategies are more successful than others, and some users have found smart ways to get beyond the basics and past what seem to be obstacles -- they’ll share these tips during this meeting and you'll be encouraged to bring questions and to share your own successes.

More about the panelists:
Monica Ellis, bassoonist for Imani Winds, documents travels by the group (which performs at CMA's Saturday night concert "Sounds American: The Music of John Duffy) on Facebook.

D.D. Jackson is a pianist and composer working in classical, jazz, commercial and experimental settings. He maintains two professional websites (www.ddjacksoncomposer.com and www.ddjackson.com) and a subscription-based newsletter. He’s a busy Facebook and Twitter user , frequent blogger, and has been a columnist for Down Beat, among other media activities.

Jo Ann Kawell, principal of Ozmotic Media, is a consultant specializing in online, new and social media developments. She conceived the #jazzlives campaign, taught about social media in the JJA's eyeJAZZ video training program, and serves as online administrator for the JJA. She directed a recent social media campaign for the jazz department of MacEwan University, among other clients.

Howard Mandel, panel moderator, is president of the Jazz Journalists Association, has been executive editor of the JJA's websites since 1996 and has urged members to engage with new media's opportunities as they've unfolded. He blogs at ArtsJournal.com/jazzbeyondjazz and NoDepression.com, has more than 3000 Facebook friends and 3000 Twitter followers (but who's counting?), has produced the annual JJA Jazz Awards most recently as a live video streaming event, promoted the Twitter hashtag campaign #jazzlives and directed the JJA's eyeJAZZ video news initiative, too.
