My interests in jazz are:
I was raised in a home surrounded by jazz. My mother was a jazz vocalist, and her husband Rich Fontana, who passed away in 2010, was a composer and life-long jazz pianist. Her two sons both play jazz instruments; her younger son is a gigging pianist and composer in western MA.
I am a jazz vocalist with Valley Jazz Voices and am a 40-year listener of live jazz on a weekly basis.
I believe in the power of jazz to transform and enrich, love the improvisational nature of jazz, and am always on the lookout for the next up-and-coming musician.
More about what I do:
I am Board President of the Northampton Jazz Festival, a volunteer-based non-profit incorporated in 2011. A native of Northampton, I spent 30 years as a marketing professional in New York City before moving back to my hometown of Northampton in 2011, where, since 2017, I've helped rejuvenate the festival in ways that add vitality to this vibrant, artistically engaged, Western Mass. city.

After the first iteration of the festival went dark for two years, I renewed the 501(c)(3), pulled together a new board and managed a successful restart with a new mission: a focus on bringing live jazz into venues and businesses throughout downtown Northampton, including educational events for young people, and expanding the impact of the festival throughout the year. So far, even battling through the pandemic, it’s worked. I was named a Difference Maker by Business West in 2022 and an Age of Excellence Honoree in 2025.
I support the JJA because
