Adrien H. Tillmann is a French-born, self-taught photographer, videographer and art director based in New York City. His photography dedicated to the jazz world can be seen across the globe, including on the walls of New York Jazz clubs the Village Vanguard and Birdland. His Seeing Jazz Master Class will be moderated by Hrayr Attarian.
Career highlights include publication in The New York Times, New York Post, Downbeat, Wall Street Journal, JazzTimes and NYC Jazz Record; a portrait featured in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA)’s blog; direction of a full concert video broadcast by PBS; a performance film for Harvard University; and a documentary commissioned by Cornell University.
Tillmann has also had contracts with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and multi-award-winning record companies such as Sony Music, Blue Note Records, Motéma and Mack Avenue Records. He has received invitations to photograph jazz musicians at some of the most respected festivals and institutions in the world, including the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, the White House and the Montreux Jazz Festival.
Tillmann also worked in art departments on set with director Rob Bravler (Moby; Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton, This is Stones Throw Records) and dp Nathan Haugaard (Avatar II: The Way of Water, Blair Witch, Alita Battle Angel.)
