Interviewing well-known musicians and other key figures in the jazz community can be one of the most rewarding parts of being a jazz journalist. But doing good interviews is an art, and some interviewees are especially difficult to get to open up. In this online panel, veteran jazz journalists will share their interviewing experiences along with some tips on interviewing those tough subjects.

PANELISTS:
*Geoffrey Himes is a long-time jazz writer who has done interviews about all genres of jazz for articles in Jazz Times, Downbeat, the Washington Post, the Baltimore City Paper, the Washington City Paper, Offbeat and other publications.

*Eddie Becton is the producer and host of “The Jazz Journey,” a weekly radio program on KXLU in Los Angeles that airs Sundays from 7 – 8 p.m at 88.9 FM. He has interviewed many jazz greats including Ahmad Jamal, Charlie Haden, Stanley Jordan, Ginny and Monica Mancini and Nicholas Payton, many others.

OTHER PANELISTS TBA

Moderated by JJA president Howard Mandel.
